AIas, it’s summer and my favorite season of the year. Since we live near the Pacific Ocean, it’s also the only time we can go ocean swimming! Want to know what else is great about this season? It’s prime time to have fun outdoors and prioritize both your mental health and physical health.
Follow these seven tips so you stay happy and healthy this summer and feel both invigorated and relaxed.
1. Get your beauty sleep
Routines may vary, especially if you’re socializing more than usual.
To stay healthy this summer, planning on getting good quality sleep. Getting your beauty sleep is a big part of your overall mental and physical health.
Your goal is to get eight to nine hours of sleep a night. Keep your room cool and dark to help make your beauty sleep more comfortable.

2. Move your body
One of the best parts of summer is being able to spend time outdoors.
However, it can be challenging to exercise when it’s hot or humid.
Moving your body and exercising is important year-round. So the best way to do this during the warm season is to get your exercise routine done in the mornings before the sun is at its peak.
Or you’re welcome to copy my routine and take short 10-minute walk breaks throughout your day.

3. Connect with your friends
Instead of experiencing FOMO while scrolling through Instagram, make a concerted effort to hang out with your friends in person.
It doesn’t need to be an expensive activity, but being social and around others will improve your mental health.
Part of your plan to stay healthy this summer is to spend time with people who nurture you!

4. Stay hydrated
Ever notice that you sweat more when it’s hot outside? It’s because your body has to work harder to maintain its core temperature.
To avoid getting dehydrated, getting a headache, or even succumbing to heatstroke, try to drink at least 80 ounces of water.
If you’re not a big water drinker, you can also opt for snacks with high-water content such as watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

5. Wear sunscreen
Not sure about you, but I sometimes find putting sunscreen a chore.
However, I would rather prevent premature aging, wrinkles, and cancer. So I make an effort to put sunscreen on first thing in the morning.
If you’re unsure what to try, I recommend SPF 30 and swear by EltaMD which my dermatologist recommended. Put sunscreen on even if you are just running errands or going for a “short walk.”

6. Visit your local farmers market
Since we live on the Central Coast of California, summer is the premium time to go to the farmer’s markets for fresh seasonal produce.
Going to the farmers market in your local area is one of the best ways to stay healthy this summer because you can take advantage of produce that is local, fresh, organic, and delicious!

7. Eat colorful light meals
It’s okay to indulge and have a burger and partake in the occasional barbeques. At the same time, try your best to eat lighter meals during the summer.
Perhaps you’re already finding yourself reaching for salads, smoothies, and fruit? It’s a sign from your body so good for you for listening.
